It’s understandable that you want to teach your puppy not to give you a hassle when putting on his leash, but to begin you need to know the basics of puppy leash training.

Let’s take a quick look at the basics of leash training your puppy.

Your first step is to find a light weight leash. To start you simply want to attach the leash and let him/her wonder around the house with it. Note: supervise your puppy in this process because you will not want him/her to get caught on anything because this will only frighten him and he will no longer want a leash.

You will only want the leash to be attached for a few minute at a time.

You will want to attach the leash at times when your puppy is happy. For example like at play time or meal time. You will want your puppy to associate with the leash so that way they have no reason to fear it. a way to do this is by placing the leash next to the bowls of food and water, thus the puppy is aware that the leash is nothing to fear.

Thereafter, you will want to start to take hold of the leash and simply allow your puppy to walk around. By any chance if the puppy happens to bump into the end of the leash, simply allow him to react and go in the direction he/she desires.

It’s very vital you allow your puppy time to adjust to the leash, before attempting to lead him/her. It’s also very important that you begin your puppy leash training in a place where your puppy feels safe.

Once your puppy is comfortable with the leash at home you can begin taking him/her outside. To begin this process you will want your walks to start off short, thereafter you can begin to lengthen the time.
